Green Energy Consumers Alliance is a non-profit organization that enables people to make green energy choices in the most cost-effective, practical and seamless ways possible, and to advocate for energy policies that benefit the greater good. Our energy programs offer New Englanders: information on and help making the switch to electric cars; green electricity for homes, offices, and whole communities; efficient electricity & heating; and advocacy for climate-friendly energy policy.
Green Energy Consumers Alliance is deeply committed to advancing clean energy in Rhode Island in order to meet our climate goals. However, we’ve seen a troubling rise in misinformation surrounding clean energy technologies. To help address this, the intern will support efforts to research the benefits of clean energy, particularly offshore wind, but also solar, energy efficiency, and battery storage, and help develop engaging, fact-based educational content. This may include videos, blogs, social media posts, webinars, op-eds, and other communications to inform the public.
Internship responsibilities include:
-Conduct research on the benefits of clean energy technologies - particularly offshore wind, but also solar, energy efficiency, and battery storage - to help combat misinformation and support public education efforts.
-Support the development of engaging, fact-based educational content, including videos, blogs, social media posts, webinars, and op-eds.
-Assist in community outreach and education by helping facilitate engagement and participation in both virtual and in-person events.
-Read and analyze Rhode Island’s climate plans and clean energy policies to help inform our clean energy policy priorities.
-Help plan and execute virtual and in-person discussions, including support with webinar coordination and technical setup.
-Help plan and assist as-needed with scheduled in-person and virtual discussions;
-Assist in webinar coordination and development;
-Other duties as assigned, including potential research, marketing, and development tasks.
Required Qualifications:

This 12-week internship with negotiable hours (ideally between 10-25 hours/week), will be conducted in a hybrid fashion, working both remotely and at least one day a week from our office in Providence, RI. Roots 2Empower (R2E) is seeking a Food Justice & Urban Agriculture (FJUA) Intern for a 12-week position, approximately September 3 - December 3.
Roots 2Empower fosters an equitable, community-driven transition to a regenerative future through public education, skills-building, and environmental connection. The Communications Intern will support Roots 2Empower’s Food Justice and Urban Agriculture program, which focuses on cultivating community resilience and environmental justice through public education, skill-building, and increasing access to fresh, culturally-appropriate food. Localizing food production is a key component of decarbonizing our economy and reaching Rhode Island’s climate mandate of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The Intern will complete research and writing projects to support policy development, advocacy, community education, and strategy development. Field work supporting our community garden will be optional based on the location of the Intern and the projects that are decided.
This is a hybrid position. The FJUA Intern will work remotely approximately 85% of the time with some field work and in-person meetings, events, and educational opportunities if feasible.

Education

Jaia Robotics is a multi-use aquatic drone and data solutions company that is aiming to disrupt the autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) market by providing very low-cost, ultra-portable, high-speed aquatic drones that can be deployed in multi vehicle pods. The JaiaBot aquatic drones can be used for point or wide area data collection and payload delivery. Their ultraportable design allows them to be launched from virtually anywhere, including surf zones, riverbanks, docks, or watercraft. The JaiaBot System is modular, enabling rapid integration of different sensors and payloads, making it highly adaptable for various applications such as Environmental Monitoring, Research, Offshore Renewables, Aquaculture, Defense, and Academia. The system offers significant cost savings and is scalable due to its low acquisition cost and minimal maintenance requirements.About the Role
As a Robotics Engineer Intern at Jaia Robotics, you will be responsible for contributing to the development and maintenance of the JaiaBot System, including mechanical, software, and/or electrical engineering capabilities. The intern role will include fieldwork with the JaiaBot Platform. You will be assisting in designing a plan for field tests, running acceptance tests for production, customer demonstrations, and customer support.
Role Responsibilities
Software Developer Interns will be responsible for contributing to the development and maintenance of the JaiaBot System Software. You’ll be involved in coding, testing, documentation, and support tasks. The coding responsibilities for this role will include both front-end and back-end development.
Mechanical Engineering interns will play a key role in developing and refining our products. Responsibilities will include hardware design, selecting appropriate materials, and optimizing components for efficient manufacturing. Electrical Engineer interns will be responsible for developing and testing communications and navigation systems of the JaiaBot aquatic drones.
All interns are expected to:

This program provides hands-on experience in a fast-paced, innovative setting, requiring interns to take a proactive, detail-oriented approach to tackle real-world engineering challenges and improve JaiaBot’s performance and reliability.

•Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to operate in a team environment and to clearly explain problems and potential solutions.
•Demonstrated track record of effective troubleshooting and resolving issues.
•You must be able to create and maintain trusting relationships with teammates and customers.
